VITAL STATS

**I was born in Chicago on 6 May 1974.  You aren’t supposed to ask but I don’t mind telling you.

**Mom lives in Denver Colorado, I went to school there.  Dad still lives close enough to Chicago that it’s easier to say he lives there than in the suburb.  :)  I spent summers with him.  I have a brother (8 years younger than I am) and a sister (6 years younger than he is) by my father and his now-ex-wife.

**My nickname is Rhubarb, or “Rhuby”, if you prefer.  I usually will have my credit in the program say Rhubarb.  It is easier to be called by my nickname than to have people mispronounce my real name, which I am (unfortunately) deaf to, and have them get upset.  Rhubarb, this should be a cool story but it isn’t really, was given to me by my pack of friends (specifically Katie and Jemiah, if memory serves) who decided that I needed a nickname and it should be a food-related nickname and maybe it should be “Rhubarb” or “Rutabega” but Rhubarb sounded better.  All kinds of parallels, now that the name has stuck, can be drawn between the vegetable and myself, it is pretty entertaining to read into it actually.

**“Matt” is Mark’s cat, he is a tank, but is quite active despite weighing so much.  “Boo” is a relatively new addition to our household, we adopted him from a set of friends who had a baby that ended up being allergic to cats; now all four of us live happily together, and the cats fight and love like brothers.  My beloved “Wheat” had to be put down a year or so ago, he was fighting a losing battle with a nasty intestinal cancer, and we had to make a good choice for him.

**Hobbies include sleeping, gardening, reading, Stouts (especially Imperial) and Scotch.  Favorite sports are hockey, baseball and soccer.  #1 colors rotate between green, purple and orange.  I like to eat lots of different styles of cooking, mostly things with intense or interesting flavor.  I don’t have cable, and I live just fine.

**I am very big on karma and giving both credit and blame where they are due.  This includes my cute webpage here.  I could pay $$ and have Pegaweb remove their logo.  But they did such a smashing job!!

**I use Rx339, Broadway Pink, somewhere in every show.  It is the most awful hideous pink you ever did see.  And I love it.

**The filler from the resume--I went to school at George Washington High School & magneted to CEC (Career Education Center), with emphasis in Graphic Arts and Theatre, I also took IB/X/AP classes including French, Physics, programming/TurboCAD.  As an adult, I attended Coe College, then The Ohio State University Main Campus.  My degree is terminal, there is no higher education I can attain.  I took theatre, graphic arts, film, dance and CAD, mostly.  I have worked Summer Stock all over the nation.

**I am the only person in existence who has a complete set of “A Dog Named Jesus” comic strips, and that includes their artist, Pete Lauf.  Pete, contact me if you read this!!  :)  I miss your face!

PEOPLE I KNOW—THE BIG PLUG

Firstly, let me say that if you are not in this and think you should be, it is not personal.  Just let me know and I’ll insert you right away!!

**Some of my “best and closest” are writers: Jemiah Jefferson is my best friend from high school, buy her books.  Lars Pearson is my friend from college, in addition to being a righteous guy, he our nation’s foremost authority on Dr. Who, you should buy his books too.  Ian C. Stewart is always in the forefront of music--you should buy up all backissues of his projects.  Also, Ian C. Stewart has his own label, which has an excellent catalog.  The Fabulous ChadderK was one of the first persons I met at college, and still one of my closest friends, both in terms of miles and grokkitude.  Buy his art, hire him out, go to his store too.  Chris Mihm has musical interests, but he’s just gotten into movie making too: all fine stuff from a fine person.

**Other people I know are in bands.  Favorite locals (alphabetical order to help avoid offense) include ABCD Andreana Cortez All the Pretty Horses CIVILIAN  Downcast Echodriver Epicurean Faux Jean FunkWire God’s Lunchbox Harsh Reality The Heed Jessy Greene

**Some of the strangest people I know just are creative beyond all get-out and they deserve a high-five too.  Claudia Linquanti is my girlfriend from high school. Mouser is an all around smartypants that I met during my tenure at undergrad. Jeff Powers was a friend in high school who I haven’t heard from in a dog’s age but my girlfriend saw his site on the web and I feel like linking to it, so there.

OTHER STUFF

**I enjoy reading books of all kinds.  I check out stacks and stacks of everything interesting.

**My favorite kinds of music are: anything except offensive rap and twangy country.  I especially enjoy jazz (big band/vocalist or fusion especially), art-rock (Talking Heads, Cowboy Mouth, New Order, BareNaked Ladies and They Might Be Giants type), and what everyone else terms easy listening (Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, Englebert Humperdinck and the ilk).  I am a big big fan of Indian Devotional music.  I grew up on Beatles, Wings, BeeGees, Donovan, Melanie, et al and haven’t learned to dislike them yet.  Ian and Mark have kept me supplied with all of the metal and hard punk I will need, ask them which ones I like.  This is by no means a comprehensive listing!  The more time signature changes, synth, or “musician’s band” it is, the more I like it.

**There are a couple bands I am passionately against but I won’t tell you, so that you don’t use that information for evil purposes.

**I don’t think there was ever a quiz that I could turn down.

**I enjoy black comedies and English humor most of all.  I like “thinky” movies and Bollywood.  I enjoy “sprited discussion” (which basically means that I enjoy arguing, where everyone agrees that nobody is to take anything personally).  I think it makes one’s ideas and beliefs stronger, to have thought them through, have reasoning and be able to defend those ideas and beliefs to others.
